Thread lead and feed calculator

Pitch measures adjacent thread spacing; lead measures axial advance in one revolution. They differ on a multiple-start thread. This tool does not calculate thread class, truncation, allowances, gauge planes or finished diameters.

Formula and inputs

Lead = pitch × starts; feed per minute = RPM × lead.

Worked example

A two-start thread at 1.5 mm pitch advances 3 mm per revolution. At 300 RPM that is 900 mm/min.

Use the result in your setup

Confirm the input dimensions and unit system against your drawing before calculating. Keep full precision during a calculation and round only the final value to suit the measurement or programming requirement. A numerical result does not account for a machine’s complete setup, workholding or control configuration.
