Material removal, power and torque calculator

Specific cutting force must be entered from a suitable source. The sample is illustrative rather than a material recommendation. Motor input includes the entered efficiency; spindle torque follows net cutting power. This model excludes acceleration and transient overloads.

Formula and inputs

MRR = depth × width × feed; net kW = volume in mm³/min × kc / 60,000,000.

Worked example

With 2 mm depth, 5 mm width and 500 mm/min feed, removal is 5 cm³/min. At 1,800 N/mm², net cutting power is 0.15 kW.

Use the result in your setup

Confirm the input dimensions and unit system against your drawing before calculating. Keep full precision during a calculation and round only the final value to suit the measurement or programming requirement. A numerical result does not account for a machine’s complete setup, workholding or control configuration.
